Staycation - Day 3

In the beginning of the week the kids made a list of all the things they wanted to do during our spring break.  Things like: go to the library, the zoo, the movies, go on a hike, go swimming at the Lagoon, shopping for new outfits and panning for gold.  Who came up with that I don't know...maybe me?  So we went online and found out about the Queen Mine tours in Bisbee.  Sounded like fun so we planned our day trip.

The morning of the girls were so excited they woke up before 6am, got ready, ate breakfast and then came and woke us up.  It was still dark!  Our girls love to travel - their poor husbands are in for a treat I tell ya!  We got packed, headed out all before 8am.

(disclaimer - this happened last week)

Here's some lovely pictures of the beautiful drive we have here in the southwest:

You're jealous aren't you......especially those of you that live in the pacific northwest and all your gorgeous green everything in site selves.  Yeah, I know....sad isn't it.  This is what our drive looked like for an hour and a half.  These two pictures are the only two things we saw worth snapping a picture of besides a whole lot of brown stuff.

We got just outside Tucson and had to make a stop into town because I have lived in AZ for 17 years and I have never been to Tuscon.  Hello?  What?  So I had to get a tour.  It's small so it didn't take too long.  I did find some interesting things to take pictures of and we did stop and get some hot, fresh (almost as good as the Bagel Bakery in Salinas) bagels for breakfast.

I love it when businesses take a plan old store front and make it their own, unique, memorable.  This has to be in my top favorites!  The art on the wall, the planters that make the cactus some how pretty (wink) the ironwork.  It makes me want to go inside and see who they are and what they do!
This was the shade structure for the BUS!!!  Man-O-Man I love this♥

After sitting in traffic for about an hour I got on my phone and realized there had been an accident the night before, the highway was closed and there would be a 95 mine detour to get to our destination.  We were only about five miles from The Queen Mine Tours. so we turned around and went to the Colossal Cave Mountain Park that wasn't too far away from where we were.

We didn't know too much about it but Cassidy had been there on a field trip a few years ago and was able to bring us up to speed.

While waiting for our tour to start we were able to walk the pretty pathways that had some pretty cactus and shade trees to shade the hot sun (it was 87 degrees!)  I couldn't help but take some pictures even though cactus aren't my favorite.  These guys did make me smile especially the heart♥

Miss Abby is always willing to pose for a picture.
Love that girl!
 My two sweeties♥xo♥
Cass took over the camera and snapped one of Tom, Abby and I

Ummmmmm....can you tell where the water is? HA!

And now for some pictures from inside the cave.  It was about a 45 min. tour and SO interesting!
Worth going to if you are ever in the area.

Growing up in northern California my Dad was so good about taking us kids exploring our state.  All the different beaches, the redwoods, state parks,  mountains, you name it we did it.  I realized that I want to do that with my kids.  Explore our state.  See what it was to offer.  I'm excited to come up with some more fun day trips to take together as a family.
Day 3 - almost didn't work out but we made up for it in the end!

Staycation Day 2

Today was another beautiful day in the Valley of the Sun.  They High was 84 and it's still 80 degrees outside at 8pm.  Gotta love it!  I just don't know what I would do with snow.  I had a dream the other night that we moved somewhere and it snowed - A LOT and I panicked.  I didn't know what to do, how to drive in it, shovel it, walk in it.  Yes, I have lived a very snow sheltered life.  In fact I have only seen it actually snow once.  True Story!

Anyhoo.....back to our fun day.  Here is our itinerary and how it played out:

Tuesday
Val Vista Lakes Country Club
(my in-laws are members)

Taco Bell for lunch
Slushies during happy hour at Sonic for a treat
Playing with the endless friends in the 'hood till dinnertime
Gymnastics for Miss Amberly
Baked chicken, salad, corn on the cob and sourdough bread for dinner
Cassidy made her first batch of lemon bars - YUM!

This place....it's my sanity away from the desert.  It looks like you are in a lush green oasis even though you are right in the middle of it.  The main pool is heated all year and is where we have the girls birthday parties (every other year).  The Lagoon as we like to call the beach area has a zero depth pool with sand, play equipment, fountains and you have the most gorgeous view of the waterfalls!
 Sand castle heaven!

Yes, we can have a little beauty in vast-land ♥
We had our wedding reception here and have been coming back ever since.
Have I mentioned that I ♥ it?
I didn't take any pictures of the flowers but man are they amazing right now!
 The crew
Cass made lemon bars for dessert
She is pretty proud of herself since this is one of her favorite treats.
We had to do something with all the lemons we have!
And they turned out perfect!

Staycation Day 1

It's spring break over here and our week is so busy and filled with so many previous commitments we have had to plan a vacation here....right in our own town.  Don't worry though, we aren't dissapointed.  In fact we are excited about all the fun we have planned.  The girls made a "spring break to-do list" and are happy as can be about it.  Plus, we are having such amazing weather why would we want to leave?

Day Uno:

Lunch at Sweet Tomatoes
Goofy Golfing
Bahama Bucks
Homemade tostadas for dinner
(pretty fun huh?)
Here are some pictures of our fun day:

Love her little tongue sticking out!

Yes..there is ONE picture of me....thanks Cass!

a mini CA Mission!  ♥ it
Halfway done - man it was HOT in that sun!
 Do you see the Moon?
Why does it do that?
It was 3pm in the afternoon?

Week 12

This week I am thankful for the easy breazy
Spring Stay-Cay we had.
That means = Stay-Cation
We didn't go out of town.
We didn't plan a lot to do.
We didn't do very many chores.

But we did have a lot of fun!
Sometimes just staying home
and enjoying each other is fun enough.
Plus we didn't spend hardly any money which makes our Hubby / Daddy very happy!

Plus,
I have to remember that we live
where people come for vacation.

Horse Camp

I had nothing fun planned for Spring Break.  It was Tuesday and I was starting to get desperate.  I needed to have something memorable for them to do even if it was only for one day.  I turned to Google my trusty pal to help me in my desperate state.  And that my friends is where I struck GOLD!

Marley Farms saved the day!
I enrolled the girls in Horse Camp
and they are in HEAVEN!!

The girls get to learn all about horses, feed, brush, bathe, saddle and ride to their hearts content.  They also have realized that horses are A LOT of work and take A LOT of money to care for.  I'm hoping it will make Cassidy think twice about wanting one.

Plus the guy that owns it is a former D-Backs baseball player and Cassidy got to hang with him today while she was riding.  Pretty cool 'eh?  The camel and Zonkey (zebra+donkey) isn't so bad either!  They have a petting zoo the girls get to play in after camp.  I think Spring Break is being fun even though we didn't go anywhere!

I'm just loving this camel!!!!
