Sick & Love Week

It's Monday and I've been in bed sick since Friday night.  I can't remember the last time I was this sick besides having a surgery of some sort.  I haven't wanted to move.  It's dreadful.  Hopefully today will be the day I kick this flu/cold to the curb!

I mean seriously.....it's the week of Valentine's Day.  Ok it's a week away but it's Love Week and I'm not feeling any love at the moment except for cold medicine and my nice warm cozy bed. I.have.got.to.get.better!

Last year my friend Anny did Love Week on her blog - listing things she loves each day.  I did it too and it was fun, uplifting and made me very grateful for all that I have in the name of love.

So this week I'm going to do it again.  Anyone with me?  You are welcome to join in the fun.  Let me know if you do so I can come read and comment♥  Here's what I loved last year on Love Week

See ya tomorrow!

The Flu has Hit Hard Over Here

We have been so sick over here.  Seriously I can't remember the last time every.single.one.of.us was sick at the same time. OK I can remember.  Cassidy was 18 months old and Tom and I were so sick we couldn't even take care of her and had to farm her out to my SIL.  Oh and then there was the time when I had had my hip replaced and had been home from the hospital for 2 days (needing major help) and Tom broke his ankle.  We were both on crutches and pathetic and helpless and Cassidy who was 3 had to take care of us.  Sad-yes, funny no - but now it is looking back!

Cassidy came down with the flu (the barf-o-rama kind) Monday.  I got it on Tuesday and Tom got it today.  In fact Tom was supposed to be on a plane at 6:30 this morning to CO and had to cancel with no refund.  You know it's bad when he didn't even care about losing the money and just wanted to stay in bed.  Miss Amberly says her tummy hurts but hasn't thrown up yet so we will see.  She's the healthy one in this family and NEVER gets sick (knock on wood).

I still have my Halloween stuff up and it's killing me but I have no desire to get out of bed.  This blog post is the longest I've been out of bed in two days and I think it's time for me to go back.  Cassidy went to school today but is still a little weak and tired.  Hopefully that means I'll be better by tomorrow.  Crossing fingers and praying for wellness.

p.s. that soup looks so good I just wish I could eat some of it without getting sick.

Sick and Tired

We have had a crazy week.  Monday the girls were sooo ready to go back to school.  They were excited to see their friends and I was excited to start a new week.  Everything started out great then Cassidy's cough got worse and worse.  When she gets allergy's or a cold it goes straight into her lungs.  And man can that girl sound like she's going to die at any minute.  What this means it that we didn't get any sleep from Tuesday on.  Yep, I think I've changed my mind about that 2 year old.  I like my sleep.

I tried to get her into the Dr. but ALL FOUR OFFICES WERE BOOKED!!!!  Can you believe that?  I thought about urgent care but remembered I had a perscription for an antibiotic that I didn't use for Cass a while ago.  (I saved it just for something like this).  I went and filled it and prayed that she would get better.

Nope.  All night we were up with her the poor thing.  At 7am I took her to this cool emergency hospital that claims "Door To Doc in 31 Minutes!"  I had never been and urgent care wasn't open and I wasn't going to try the Dr. again or the regular emergency room by our house so off we went.

This place was amazing!  We walked in, I gave her my insurance card and away we went.  We were in the door and then leaving with the door closing behind us in less that 31 minutes!  I was shocked!!!  Seriously, they have got it down!  And everyone was so friendly and nice and helpful.  Except Cassidy - when they tried to have her cough she couldn't and it sounded totally wimpy.  I hate feeling like they think I'm exaggerating! They gave us different antibiotics and some cough syrup with codine and we came home and she slept for 3 hours.

All day the girls played outside in the warm sunshine in the backyard making a fort.  They played ALL DAY!  Didn't fight ONCE!!  Do you think it's because they got to stay home from school so it felt different?  I don't know but I loved it.  That's what sisters are for.  Playing...not fighting.

We had cereal and toast for dinner cause that's the kind of day it was.  Everyone was happy and in bed early!  I'm crossing my fingers that Cass won't cough all night.  wish me luck♥

It's Monday

I've been sick but I'm getting better.  I didn't do anything all weekend in hopes of a fast recovery.  I think it worked.  I also pumped myself full of liquids and vitamin C - every hour on the hour.  I did my wet sock treatment that I have over on my side bar and I kid you not, if you do it for three nights straight you will have kicked your cold in it's you-know-what.  It works.  I'm a fan.  Should I make it a FB page? (wink)

I also realized that I need some type of organized job chart at home.  My kids are more than old enough to help around the house.  The main problem is that there isn't enough time in the day for school, homework, chores, practice and play.  Oh they have daily chores but it's not enough.  There needs to be a daily schedule set up.  I'm on the hunt for something good.  If you have any ideas let me know.

I've had a sick and stressful week.  I had high hopes of cleaning out drawers and cupboards to make me feel better but there hasn't been enough time.  No bags have been filled on my 40 bag challenge.  Drats!  But I'm not giving up.  There's always tomorrow.  And I'm hoping it will be a good one.

Sorry - this was a little depressing.

I'm Sick......

So that means my 52 Blessing project will be done when I feel better.
Along with a whole bunch of other posts I have half started.

Side note- I've gotten four spam comments in the past week.
I have deleted them but "anonymous"  keeps re-posting them.
I've never had that happen before.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Wet Socks

Guess what we are doing over here? Cassidy has been sick for WEEKS!!! Weeks I tell ya. When that girl gets a cold it goes right to her lungs and she coughs all night and most of the day for months. It's terrible. I started putting Mentholatum on the bottom of her feet and covering them with socks which seemed to help immensely! (You should try it!)

Then my Dr. told me about the Wet Sock Treatment. We did it last night and she didn't cough once - or all day today. The key is you have to do it three nights in a row for it to work. Tonight was #2 for her and I'm going to try it on me to help get rid of this nasty stuffy nose I have. I'm so excited I just had to share! I know it's cold and flu season and if you could help without taking any drugs wouldn't you be game? So good luck and I'll keep you posted on how it works for me! Let me know if you try it!

WET SOCK TREATMENT

The wet sock treatment is best if repeated for three nights in a row, or as instructed by your physician.

Indications
Sore throat or any inflammation or infection of the throat, neck pain, ear infections, headaches, migraines, nasal congestion,
upper respiratory infections, coughs, bronchitis, and sinus infections.

Contraindications
Use with caution in diabetes, Raynaud’s phenomenon or syndrome, arterial insufficiency or advanced intermittent
claudication. The warming phase is especially important for these patients. Please consult your physician.

Supplies
  • 1 pair white cotton socks
  • 1 pair thick wool socks
  • Towel
  • Warm bath or warm foot bath

Directions
  1. Take a pair of cotton socks and soak them completely with cold water. Be sure to wring the socks out thoroughly so
    they do not drip.
  2. Warm your feet first. This is very important as the treatment will not be as effective and could be harmful if your feet are
not warmed first. Soaking your feet in warm water for at least 5-10 minutes or taking a warm bath for 5-10 minutes can
    accomplish warming.
  3. Dry off feet and body with a dry towel.
  4. Place cold wet socks on feet. Cover with thick wool socks. Go directly to bed. Avoid getting chilled.
  5. Keep the socks on overnight. You will find that the wet cotton socks will be dry in the morning.

Effects of the Wet Sock Treatment
This treatment acts to reflexively increase the circulation and decrease congestion in the upper respiratory passages, head,
and throat. It has a sedating action and many patients report that they sleep much better during the treatment. This treatment
is also effective for pain relief and increases the healing response during acute infections.

Cassidy Has....................

MONO!!!!!!!!

Yep, we went to the Dr. did all kinds of tests and she said Cass has Mono and an almost double ear infection (hopefully we can get it to drain before it turns into one). She aches all over, has swollen glands, sore throat and a high fever.

My poor baby. She is miserable. But this time I didn't make her go to school and have been taking very good care of her. I did stop into the school today and got her some work to catch up on. (I'm not THAT nice!) Her teacher said out of the 11 girls in the class 8 have been sick this week. What are those boys doing in that class to make the girls so sick? (just kidding)

So, hopefully she can rest up and get better soon. And....I hope none of us get it!
